A TRIPLE CROWN OF THEIR OWN
A flexible approach and determination to do business seems to be the main approach from EVM in Kilbeggan. This month they contacted us and asked would be interested in doing a feature on their new EVM Sprinter to celebrate the launch of their new 2 year bumper to bumper warranty on their minibus conversion range. Following the opening of EVM Danny Mc Gee was able to secure the rights to construct the popular KVC converted Sprinter, a vehicle familiar for its style and quality of build. During its time KVC would have converted over 600 minibuses and the company was always at the fore for latest technologies, innovation and design.
The Sprinter
Aimed to be the biggest seller in the EVM range it’s very important that the Company gets the Sprinter right. In addition to the more commonly known 515 Sprinter EVM they are now offering the 519 thus offering additional performance if needed. The vehicle available for the feature was a new Mercedes Sprinter 519 CDI V6 Sprinter. This three litre engine, claimed as a Mercedes Benz engineering masterpiece, meeting Euro 5 emission standards sees a slight increase in power but significant increase in torque output. If truth be told I wasn’t sure that the market really needed additional power but Mercedes Benz states that benefits can been seen in fuel economy, something no operator I think would be complaining about.
Exterior
There are three main areas to this EVM conversion, external cosmetics, interior and storage. We must start with the most obvious and with all the Company’s work, its perfection in external appearance. The vehicle has been fitted with a moulded fibre glass body kit, inclusive of side skirts and front bumper spoiler, Some others seem to have copied this trend but none have been available to view and as expected fit and finish are second to none. A complete colour code, panoramic double glazing and a set of euroliners compliment the entire external finish. A new GT version should be available on the market later this year, be very interesting to see what changes they will make to the cosmetic appearance of the vehicle.
Interior
This high level of finish is followed through to the interior. Inside offers a high quality ambience first noticed on entry via the wide plug door, with three stage entry step and clearly visible handle rails. Attention to detail is clear with a carefully moulded under dash storage box and clever floor edge mouldings. This particular model fitted with 16 Politecnica leather reclining seats; moulded luggage racks incorporating individual passenger service units; centre aisle carpet and some effective internal led lighting. Included in this luxury package is the latest offering in in-vehicle entertainment packages including DVD, monitor and Radio/CD. The use of the quality components offers a real feel of luxury to this start performer.
Storage
Finally where this vehicle does really score is in the way EVM have tackled the storage. An operator has to be sure that there is adequate luggage space for sixteen passengers. Entry is via a lift up coach style rear door and the boot consists of a drop well floor incorporating a removable shelf which adds additional storage options.
